How-To
Before beginning this finger paint activity, remember to lay down a protective cloth on your table and to wear a protective apron in case things get a little messy.

First, pour some finger paint into a pie tin large enough so that your whole hand can fit inside.

Next, place your hand, palm facing downward, into the finger paint in the pie tin and move it around until the bottom of your hand is covered in paint.

Remove your hand and press it firmly on a piece of finger paint paper. If you don’t have finger print paper, you can also simply cut open and use a brown paper grocery bag.

Next, have your grandchild repeat what you just did. Help them place their palm in the finger paint in the pie tin. Then have them make their palm print on the same piece of finger paint paper right next to yours.

Also, you may want to try using different colors of finger paint. The grandparent can make their handprint using yellow paint. Wait until it dries. Then, use a different color of paint, such as red, so your grandchild can make their handprint inside of your own handprint.

If you don’t have finger paint, you can still do this activity by simply using crayons or markers to trace the outline of your hand and your grandchild’s hand on some construction paper.

If your grandchild can write his or her name, then have him or her do so next to their handprint. Write “Grandma” or “Grandpa” next to your own handprint and include today’s date on the project.

Hang this art project on the refrigerator or frame it as a permanent reminder of this special activity you’ve shared with your grandchild.
