Since our series began, we’ve shared some really innovative and easy to do activity ideas that you can try at home with your kids.

The following projects have been chosen as four of our favorite activities to do with the children you care for:

  • Cardboard Restaurant
  • We’ve all had the experience of bringing home a toy only to have a child ignore the toy and instead play with the box. Boxes are great open-ended “toys” because they allow kids to use their imagination. This activity will show you how to turn recycled boxes into a make-believe restaurant.

  • Volcano Experience
  • In this activity, kids will learn how to create an erupting volcano in their own home. This activity can be very exciting for 4-year-olds. As soon as the vinegar and baking soda come in contact, there’s an immediate reaction that is easily observed by the kids.

  • Doll Washing
  • In this activity, you’ll learn how an activity like washing dolls can help your child release tension and express their feelings in a healthy way. Kids can learn a lot from a simple activity like washing dolls. By role-playing, your kids are making sense of the world by re-enacting what they see their parents do, which promotes healthy development. Taking care of the doll allows your child the freedom of self-expression, which encourages him or her to open up to you more. Finally, washing dolls helps relax your child’s mind and body. It’s a soothing, low-stress activity that the child can relate to his or her own bath time.

  • Ball Maze
  • In this activity, you’ll learn how you and your kids can connect cardboard tubes to create a ball maze. It’s a great way to stimulate children’s minds and get them to interact with each other.
