Since our series began, we’ve shared some really innovative and easy to do activity ideas that you can try at home with your kids.
The following projects have been chosen as four of our favorite activities to do with the children you care for:
- Box House
In this activity you'll learn how to create a house out of cardboard box. A box house is especially great for young kids who can benefit from the many opportunities to interact socially with other children and learn about positive interactions.
- Ball Toss Game
In this activity, kids will learn how to create their own ball tossing game they can play outside. Children can learn a lot from an activity like tossing a ball. First, by using their arm muscles to throw the ball through a hole, your kids are developing their gross motor skills and their hand-eye coordination. By matching the balls to their corresponding holes, your kids are learning about sizes.
- Placemats
In this activity, kids will get the opportunity to create their own placemats to use during family mealtime. Kids can draw or write whatever they want, and many times what they put on their placemats can be a great conversation-starter at the table.
- Healthy Chicken Strips
Once considered an "adults only" disease, type 2 diabetes is currently an epidemic among young children and adolescents. Obesity may be the single most important factor in the development of type 2 diabetes. Making proper diet and exercise a family priority is an important factor in reducing your child's risk of developing this devastating illness. In this activity, you'll learn a healthier way you can make chicken strips.
